Clue: “Flowers are the second brightest thing at the marina. I am bold and colourful, but they are greener. Whether you are near or far you can’t miss me, when you pass by stop for a selfie”
Did you know…?
These brightly coloured panels have been here since 1998 and were designed by artist Dale Devereux Barker. St Katharine Docks has been the inspiration for many artists over the years. In 2016 it hosted an exhibition by Plastic Propaganda. It included works by Lizzie Cannon, who creates art out of objects washed up by the River Thames.
Scientists have estimated that 94,000 microplastics per second flow down the River Thames in places and has some of the highest recorded levels of microplastics for any river in the world. Microplastics include glitter, microbeads from cosmetics, plastic fragments from larger items, with food packaging thought to be a significant source. Bits of plastic have been found inside the bodies of crabs living in the Thames and there are huge amounts of wet wipes washed up on the banks.
