Ecosystems don’t need to be a specific size – they could be as small as this flowerbed or as big as the planet earth. Many wildlife species live in urban areas, but their survival depends on the key components of a healthy ecosystem – water, temperature, flora (plants), fauna (animals), sunlight and soil – all working in unity.
For example, many plants we think of as weeds, such as dandelions and clover, are actually a favourite food source for native bees. By pulling up these ‘pesky’ plants we’re killing the essential ingredients of a healthy ecosystem and the bees that need them.
