A place for reflection
The Silver Jubilee was a significant national and international event. Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, travelled approximately 56,000 miles on a series of jubilee tours that included visits to Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands. They then returned to the United Kingdom to visit a total of 36 counties in Scotland, England, and Wales.
In 1977, the Coronarium was constructed to commemorate the Queen's Silver Jubilee. Originally an open-air chapel housing the "crystal crown," the Coronarium was the site of an official visit by the Queen for the opening and unveiling of the piece as part of the celebrations along the River Thames.
